Mercedes-Benz C-Class Review
SYNOPSIS Mercedes Benz C Class is manufactured in 4 variants in India in the form of 2 Petrol and 2 Diesel cars. The sedan comes in 6 colors, namely, Cavansite Blue, Citrine Brown, Iridium Silver, Obsidian Black, Palladium Silver, and Polar White. The C-Class has been among the best-selling Mercedes-Benz cars in India since its launch. The frequent updates given to the car has enabled it to maintain a ruling position in the entry-level executive luxury sedan segment for years. With similar engine options, the car entered the new generation when it received the S-Class inspired design in 2015.

The new-gen C-Class has twin-slat grille with signature three-point star logo, a long bonnet, low stance and short front overhands, daytime running light design, rear bumper, tail lamps, boot lid and shoulder creases merging from LED headlamps and running towards the door handles, based on the company’s new lightweight Mercedes Rear- Drive Architecture. The new C-Class is longer (95mm) and wider (40mm) than the old model, though its height is reduced by 5mm. It measures 4, 686mm in length, 1, 810mm in width and 1, 442mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2, 840mm.

The new design of the sedan has made it more roomy and rich than the previous one. The interior is improved with the help of the dual tone dash, centre console with high gloss lime wood finish and ambient lighting in three colors and five dimming levels. The fit and finish are spotless, and button layout is practical. Infotainment system with a 8.4-inch display, 3D satellite navigation and phone connectivity, reverse parking sensors, ARTICO leather upholstery, rear view camera with guidelines, three zone climate control, 13-speakers Burmester sound system, front and rear panoramic roof etc are the other additions made to the car.

The C-Class comes in two engine options - a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. The former produces a maximum power of 181bhp at 5, 500rpm and 300Nm at 1, 200rpm - 4, 000rpm, while the latter offers 167.62bhp at 3, 000rpm - 4, 200rpm and 400Nm at 1, 400rpm - 2, 800rpm. Transmitting power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed automatic transmission (7G-TRONIC Plus).

A fuel efficiency of 17.5 kmpl is given by the 2143 cc diesel power variant, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 11.8 kmpl , respectively.

The petrol engine is robust, and gives an efficient mid-range performance. It can attain 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. The aerodynamic body construction curtails wind resistance, and helps in its handling and high speed performance. The all new sedan has an option of 3 driving modes - Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual - that alter engine, steering, gearbox and climate control. The new MRA platform has made the new C-Class 100kgs lighter and stiffer than its predecessor; improving its fuel economy and drivability. It has higher ground clearance, improved electric steering, strong tyres and AIRMATIC suspension, which offers a balanced and smooth ride quality on even rough roads.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has rivals in BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Audi A3 and Jaguar XE.
