Remember the first generation Maruti Swift Dzire that shook the compact sedan market and gave Maruti a hugely successful product that has become a synonym of the segment. However, we did get the updated second generation Dzire with the arrival of the second-generation Swift. But, the original car still sold in the form of the Maruti Dzire Tour and was targeted towards the taxi market only. With the third generation Maruti Swift about to arrive soon, Maruti has finally decided to let go of its old steed and let it rest in peace by discontinuing it around March 2017. The report came out in Economic Times that states Maruti Suzuki will stop sales of Maruti Swift Dzire Tour by March 2017.
The primary reason for the discontinuation of the Tour is to let Maruti concentrate on the upcoming third-generation 2017 Maruti Dzire. Interestingly, as per the report, the company might look into a stripped down variant of the current Dzire to take place of the ‘Tour’ model being released of duty. With the product still being a successful one, it does make sense for Maruti to carry on with Taxi market only stripped down Dzire Tour model. As for the numbers, Maruti sold a total of 3,017 units of the Dzire Tour in November 2016 only. We are expecting the all new Third-generation Swift and the Swift Dzire to arrive almost at the same time in the market. The report in the Economic Times also signals towards the same with its March timeline for the launch of the new Swift.
