The automotive world has been talking about Audi’s intention to get into the segment of BMW X6 with their own absolutely (practically) pointless SUV that has a coupe form and is an absolute hoot to drive and have fun in. After many rumours and spied images, Audi finally declared that the concept of this new flagship Audi Q SUV is coming to 2017 Detroit Motor Show. Sticking to it, the German automaker has presented the world with a stunning 2018 Audi Q8 Concept and we are in love with the way it looks, especially in this amazing Bombay Blue Paint scheme.
Poised to be the sportiest Q model out there in the market when it arrives in 2018, The Audi Q8 is also the most groundbreaking new Audi design language in a long long time. We simply are drooling over that gigantic gaping maw at the font with those stunning LED headlights. Then there are those amazing frameless windows that pronounce the SUV’s proper four-door-coupe feel. As per the dimensions the Q8 is essentially a sportier Q7 with a wheelbase which is now around 0.3 inches shorter than the Q7. In over all terms the Q8’s overall length and height are both lesser as compared to the Q7, to be price by 1.6 and 1.3 inches respectively.
However, the 2018 Audi Q8 Concept is much broader than the Q7 with an increase of 2.9 inches lending the car broader hips. Audi also seems to emphasis on its sheer width by incorporating that stunning full-length taillight design. That is not all; the Q8 also gets inspiration from the 1980s legendary Quattro in those flared fenders at all four wheels. Add to that a wide, raked C-pillar along with additional intakes atop the eight-point grille on 2018 Audi Q8 Concept further inspires the new Audi flagship crossover’s design to that of the classic Audi rally car.
The interior of the car represents not only what to expect from the production Q8 but these features will also percolate into the all new Audi A8 as well. There is a barrage of touchscreens to greet you when you step inside while the rest of the cabin is sleek with sturdy SUV-gone-racing feel to it. The Q8 will seat four like its rivals in prime comfort and luxury while being a rocket hip in an SUV form.
The engine on the unveiled 2018 Audi Q8 Concept was a hybrid unit that had a 333bhp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 monster of an engine that is matched to a 134bhp electric motor while featuring an 8-speed automatic transmission. When you combine the outputs of both on this e-tron variant of the Q8, you get around 443bhp and a planet moving 700Nm of peak torque. With such a demonic engine the 2018 Audi Q8 Concept is aid to be capable of doing 0-100kmph in just 5.4 seconds, now that is proper fast sportscar category. The Q8 will be electronically limited to a top speed of 250Kmph.
Interestingly, with all this firepower the Audi Q8 e-Tron would still be able to get the nature lovers happy with its 60km range on all-electric driving mode. The lithium-ion battery which is mounted at the rear of the Q8 can be fully charged in under 2-and-a-half hours by using a 240-volt, 30-amp outlet. Along with this e-Tron hybrid powertrain the production Q8 will also get a number of engine options ranging in V6, V8 and quite possibly an RS Q8 Twin-Turbocharged V8 variant as well. Globally Audi will also be offering a range od top spec Diesel engines on the Q8 as well.
The production variant of the 2018 Audi Q8 Concept will be launched in its major markets such as USA in the later part of the year. Expect the Indian launch of the Coupe-SUV crossover to happen around mid 2018. As for pricing, The Q8 should retail around the same price tag of its main rivals the BME X6 and the Mercedes GLE.
