Ford EcoSport, a SUV has 11 versions available in India; with its 6 Petrol cars and 5 Diesel cars it rules the market in 8 colours, namely, Chill Metallic, Diamond White, Golden Bronze, Kinetic Blue, Mars Red, Moon dust Silver, Panther Black and Smoke Grey. Launched in 2013, the EcoSport is one of the most awarded and fuel-efficient Ford cars in India.
The model is impeccably designed imparting it a robust and grandiose appearance. The front facade is endowed with an octagonal chrome radiator grille with the company’s badge, halogen headlamps and fog lamps with circular chrome lining. The sides feature a pair of large alloy wheels while the rear end supports a spare wheel elevating its robust look. The side-opening tailgate, triangular tail lamp cluster, rear windshield with black additions at the sides and black plastic cladding around entire profile enhance its bold yet grandeur appearance.
Interior & Features
The dual-tone beige & black interior is inspired from the Fiesta. Silver inserts on the dashboard, gearbox panel, centre console, instrument cluster, AC vents and steering wheel are other features elevating its splendours appearance. The top-model gets leather upholstery while the base variants fabric seat covers along-with several comfort-enhancing features such as a new MID with Microsoft SYNC, audio system, air conditioning and many more. It offers ample legroom and headroom space while the rear seat poses a little clumsiness.
It is available in two petrol engines - 1.0-litre EcoBoost and1.5-litre - and a diesel engine - 1.5-litre DV5. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost is an award winning petrol engine delivering a maximum power of 123.4bhp at 6000rpm with a peak torque of 170Nm at 1400-4500rpm. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) thrusts a peak power of 110bhp at 6300rpm with a torque of 140Nm at 4400rpm. Both the petrol engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a 6 speed automatic transmission is also available with 1.5-litre variant. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder DV5 diesel engine, on the other hand, delivers a maximum power output of 89.9bhp at 3750rpm with a peak torque of 204Nm between 2000-2750rpm.
The 1498 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 22.27 kmpl, while the Petrol variant 1.5L engine offers a mileage of 15.85 kmpl and 1.0 L Engine offers mileage of 18 kmpl.
Performance and Handling
All the engines are plush and deliver unswerving output. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost thrusts phenomenal performance, accelerating 0-100kmph in 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 190kmph, while the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine takes 13.25 seconds for the same. The 1.5-litre DV5 diesel powertrain marks a speed range of 0-100kmpl in 13.20 seconds with an electronic speed limit of 175kmpl.The ride quality is extensively gratifying but it gets a bit cumbersome while facing potholes, though the hydraulic suspension with damping duties prevents harshness. Handling is balanced and is a piece of cake.
Both the roadsters are at par in appearance but the EcoSport offers similar features at more competitive price and also is more frugal and puissant than the Duster. Other rivals are Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Hyundai Creta, S-Cross.
