Hyundai’s first-ever compact SUV in the Indian market; the Creta, was launched on 21 July, 2015.  The SUV is available in four trim levels - Base, S, SX and SX (O) In its segment, it’s the first car to get an automatic transmission with diesel engine. The Creta is manufactured at the Hyundai’s Chennai-based plant, with 90% level of localization and exported to global markets.

OUTER LOOK
Based on HIVE body architecture, the Creta looks like a smaller version of the Santa Fe. It sports bi-functional projector headlights with LED daytime running lamps, front and rear skid plates, dual tone radiator grille and chrome finished door handles (only on top-model), ORVM, LED turn indicators on outside mirrors, side body cladding, A-Pillar piano black glossy finish, R16 Clean silver/ R17 diamond cut alloy wheels and other styling elements. The compact SUV measures 4.27m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.63m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.59m. The color options available are Polar White, Red Passion, Mystic Blue, Phantom Black, Sleek Silver, Stardust and Pearl Beige.

INTERIOR & FEATURES

The interior has compact SUV features and contemporary Hyundai design. The car has a 7-inch touchscreen AVN system with CD/MP3/Radio/USB/ AUX-in, Bluetooth and Navigation connectivity, a multifunction 4-spoke steering wheel, silver accented AC vents, instrument console with color MID, inside door handles and crash pad garnish with metal finish, follow-me-home headlamps, leather pack, supervision cluster, power windows, etc.

ENGINE
Two diesel engine options -1.4-litre U2 CRDi and 1.6-litre CRDi VGT - and one petrol motor - 1.6-litre Dual VTVT is available which are inspired from the Verna sedan. The 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder Dual VTVT petrol engine gives out a maximum power of 121bhp at 6, 400rpm and 151Nm of torque at 4, 850rpm. The 1.4-litre diesel engine delivers 89bhp at 4,000rpm with 220Nm at 1,500rpm - 2,750rpm, whereas the 1.6-litre diesel variant delivers 126bhp at 4,000rpm and 259Nm at 1,900rpm - 2,750rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission comes as standard, while a 6-speed automatic gearbox is available only on the top-end variant (SX (O)).

MILEAGE
A fuel efficiency of 21.38 kmpl is given by the 1396 cc diesel variant, while the petrol model offers a mileage of 15.29 kmpl, respectively.

PERFORMANCE & HANDLING
The Creta is the first car to sport a 6-speed automatic transmission on the diesel model (only on the 1.6-litre) in its division. The gearbox is swift, and works dexterously at 2,000rpm and above. The bigger 1.6-litre diesel engine has top-dollar refinement. It drives well, and offers incisive performance. The strong mid RPM range aides the car in overtaking. The power delivery is continuous and the 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol engines, too, convey fantastic performance. The high-tensile HIVE body structure, (composed of high strength steel) makes the ride quality impressive. Sadly, the light steering and suspension disrupt the car’s handling.

RIVALRY
Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross are some of the opponents of the car.
