Hyundai Eon, comes in 16 variants in India in the form of 12 Petrol and 4 LPG cars. The hatchback is available in 6 colors, namely; Polar White, Pristine Blue, Red Passion, Retro Shine, Sleek Silver, and Stardust. Introduced in 2011, Eon is one of the best selling Hyundai cars in India. The car looks fashionable and extravagant, all thanks to the company’s premium ‘Fluidic’ design philosophy.
The hatchback now has long swept-back headlamps, aggressive grill, fog-lamp scoops on bumper, creases on bonnet and other modernist elements. The entry level and mid variants are assembled with 145/80 12-inch wheels, while the top-model gets 13-inch 155/70 tyres.
INTERIOR & FEATURES
Though the hatchback is dense, it offers a spacious cabin with an interior that is superior than most of its rivals. It is beige themed with dashboard having flowing lines and chromed centre console enhance the hatchback’s oomph. It even has several features like music system with radio, CD player, iPod, Aux-in and USB connectivity, gear shift indicator, power windows, power steering etc.
Two petrol engine options available - an 814cc, 3-cylinder, petrol and a 1000cc, 3-cylinder unit, where the former produces 55.2bhp and 74.5Nm at 4,000rpm, the latter churns out 68bhp and 95Nm. The automobile is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The LPG model, powered by the same 814cc engine, is better at fuel efficiency than the gasoline power train.
The 814 cc - powered engine version delivers a fuel economy of 21.01 kmpl, while the 1000 cc Petrol version offers a mileage of 20.03 kmpl, respectively.
PERFORMANCE & HANDLING
The hatchback is compact and has a small wheelbase with a short turning radius. City drivability is improved by proper handling and light steering. However, the high-speed performance isn’t the best. It attains 0-100 kmph in 20 seconds with a top speed of 135kmph.
Though both vehicles are run by a small engine, the Eon’s model offers better power output and a splendid fuel economy of 21.1kmpl. Hyundai’s Eon has several comfort-enhancing and safety features whereas the Alto 800 does not, but, when it comes to drivability and handling, the Alto 800 wins over its rival. Hyundai Eon also compete with Renault Kwid.
