Renault Duster, a SUV has 11 versions available in India: 2 Petrol and 9 Diesel ones. It is available in 7 colours, namely, Amazon Green, Metallic Fiery Red, Metallic Graphite Grey, Metallic Moonlight Silver, Metallic Woodland Brown, Pearl Galaxy Black and Pearl Supreme White. The 2015 version of the Duster model was recently launched in the Indian market. The latest credential added in the model is ECO mode that assists the engine in delivering around 10 per cent more mileage.
An alluring sumptuous structure is imparted to the model by its French manufacturers complementing its ingeniously provided features. The front fascia of the model is bestowed with revamped headlight cluster with dual barrel lamps, stylish roof rails, body coloured bumpers with cladding and sporty aluminium alloy wheels with gun metal finish.
Interior & Features
The dual-tone colour scheme used in the interiors compliments the red inserts offered on seats. It is incorporated with eminent essentials like air conditioning system with rear vents, electrically operated windows, power steering with tilt adjustment function and ample storage space for convenience of passengers. Its dashboard is well designed and feels clutter free. The auto maker has introduced new advancements in the form of a three spoke steering wheel with steering controls, three-pod instrument cluster, fuel consumption meter and 2WD/AWD button. The controls of music system are offered in the form of paddle shifter, which feels niche. The car has ample space for legroom in both front and second rows, while the boot space is also close to 410 litres.
The few variants of the model are offered in both diesel and petrol engine options. In order to fulfil the demands of masses, the French auto maker has introduced both two-wheel and four-wheel drive options. The petrol versions come equipped with a 1.6-litre engine generating a maximum power of 102.5 bhp along with a peak torque of 148 Nm. On the other side, the diesel counterpart features a 1.5-litre engine tuned in two different configurations. The lower-end variant produces a maximum power of 83.8 bhp of with 200 Nm of peak torque, while in other configuration it produce 108.5 bhp of maximum power and 245 Nm of highest torque.
In order to transmit the produced output, it is being offered in an option of either five speed gearbox or a six speed transmission system, depending upon the variants.
The 1461 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 19.87 kmpl, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 13.05 kmpl.
Performance and Handling
Although Duster is not particularly an off-roader, it has impressed auto aficionados with its driving dynamics. The Duster is endowed with a shift-on-fly AWD mode and independent suspensions at all the four corners. The electrically controlled 4x4 system of Duster is referred as iDrive technology by Renault. The 2WD option enables the car to run on 2 wheel drive mode while as soon as the knob is moved to auto mode it automatically detects which wheel to send power in case of tricky potholes.
The wagon poses a stiff competition to Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV 300 and Nissan Terrano.
