Renault Lodgy, an Mpv/Muv has 11 Diesel versions out on Indian roads in 6 colours, namely, Absolute Steel, Indigo Breeze, Moonlight Silver, Pearl White, Planet Grey and Royal Orchid. Lodgy, the first ever MPV by the French automaker, was launched in India on 9th April 2015. The MPV is sold under Renault-owned Dacia brand in international markets; however, in India it is sold as the Renault Lodgy.
The MPV exhibits the features of the Duster with a bit revamp. The exterior styling is conventional and plain yet sumptuous. The front facade features detailed grille with lots of chrome and a Renault badge, large headlamps, day time running lights, integrated fog lamps, black bumper and some chrome accents. It has the longest wheelbase in its segment which is flaunted by its side profile. It gets chrome on lower half of the door mouldings and 15-inches, 5-spoke alloys. The rear profile too is embellished with simple yet immaculate design. It sports thick chrome strip, tailgate, tail lights and chrome trimmings.
Interior & Features
The MPV is claimed to offer the most spacious and practical interior in its league. It is available in both the seven-seater and eight-seater options. The 7-seater offers comfortable captain seats for 2nd row occupants. Most of the equipments are borrowed from the Duster such as inside door handles, circular air vents, gear knob, AC switches, three-spoke steering etc. The centre console with chrome inserts and piano black finish and new beige Alpaga quilted leather upholstery add more to its interior appeal. With adequate cushioning and good thigh, back and head support, the front seats feel comfortable. The MPV is endowed with plenty of entertainment and comfort-enhancing features such as Media-nav system with 7-inches touchscreen, USB, Aux and Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking camera, parking sensors, 12V charging sockets and many more.
It features the same 1.5-litre, K9K diesel engine. Just like the Duster, the engine is available in two states of tunes - 85PS (84bhp) and 110PS (108.5bhp). The 108.5bhp variant is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the 84bhp version comes with a 5-speed transmission.
The 1461 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 19.98 kmpl.
Performance and Handling
Renault car models are known for their performance and drivability, and the Lodgy takes on the league. The engine is efficient and refined. The 108.5bhp version accelerates 0-100kmph in 12 seconds with a top speed of 170kmph, while the 84bhp variant takes 13.3 seconds, having an electronically limit top speed of 163kmph. Gearshifts of the 108.5bhp model are smooth, but it’s complained for slightly heavy clutch and significant turbo lag. The ride is composed and comfortable. The handling and high speed stability is impressive due to the monocoque body and agile suspension. The body roll is well-controlled, even at corners. However, the turning radius is wide, and steering feedback leaves room for improvement.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio is the closest competitor of the Renault Lodgy.
