Skoda Superb Review
Synopsis Skoda Superb, a Sedan has 3 versions available in India. Skoda Superb has 2 Petrol cars and 1 Diesel car. Skoda Superb comes in 7 colours, namely, Amethyst Royal, Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Lava Blue, Magic Black, Magnetic Brown, Rosso Brunello. First launched in 1943, the Skoda Superb is an executive saloon. The vehicle entered the Indian market in 2004, and the sedan received its third major revision at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. The previous generation model was based on the VW Passat sedan; however, the current model is based on the A5 Octavia platform with transverse engine layout. Changes to the new Superb were completely cosmetic in nature. It is currently the most luxurious and the fastest production car from the Czech automaker in the Indian car market.

Outer Look
The new Skoda Superb saloon gets a new front fascia with revised grille and new Skoda logo. Instead of the slat design, the vehicle gets mesh air intake. The butterfly-shaped front grille is in continuation with Skoda's corporate look, which we have already seen on the Skoda Octavia sedan. The grille accommodates new Skoda logo which was first seen on the Rapid sedan. For the first time, the saloon gets bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. The side profile of the sedan looks identical to the previous model, except for the few changes to alloy wheels design, wing mirrors and door handles. At the rear, the Superb has new tail lamps that make C-shaped design and the tail light cluster is a full LED unit. Other changes include revised boot lid and bumper. The overall rear profile looks identical to the Volkswagen Passat. Dimensionally, the saloon measures 4,833mm in length, 1,817mm in width and 1,482mm in height, and it comes with a large wheelbase of 2,761mm. The sedan has a ground clearance of 159mm, which is good enough to tackle Indian road conditions.

Interior & Features

The interior of the Skoda Superb sedan has a striking similarity with its sibling, the Volkswagen Passat. It features a dual-tone dashboard with lots of chrome inserts to offer premium feel to it. The large seats are wrapped in good quality leather that offers excellent back and thigh support. It comes equipped with a powerful automatic air conditioning with adjustable rear AC vents mounted on B-pillar. The sunroof comes with an integrated wind deflector, while the multi-functional three-spoke steering wheel (Previous model had 4-spoke steering wheel) gets audio and cruise control. The feature list includes automatic rain sensing wipers, tinted glasses, 1-DIN display for rear parking sensors, twin door boot lid, leather upholstery, LCD TFT Colour Touch screen with AUX-in, Bluetooth, 6 CD Changer and 8 speakers, and 12 way electrically adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, etc.

Engine
The Skoda Superb saloon is available in two engine options - 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The petrol engine is capable of producing a top power output of 158bhp at 4500rpm along with a peak torque of 250Nm at 1500rpm. This engine is paired to either a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The oil burner is a 2.0-litre TDI motor that is good for 138bhp of power at 4,200rpm and 320Nm of torque at 1750rpm. Power is transmitted to front wheels of the saloon via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mileage

The 1968 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 17.2 kmpl, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 13.1 kmpl, respectively.

Performance & Handling
The diesel version of the Skoda Superb accelerates to 100kmph from zero in less than 12 seconds and hits a top speed of 205kmph. On the other hand, the petrol model clocks 0-100kmph in less than 10 seconds and remains stable at speeds up to 205kmph. Mechanically, the Superb facelift remains the same. It offers the same combination of excellent body control in corners and stability at high speeds, and the steering offers great feedback.

Rivalry
The Skoda Superb saloon competes against the likes of Toyota Camry, VW Passat, and Honda Accord.
